Make MP3 copies from a FLAC collection

Keep FLAC as the source

FLAC stores audio with lossless compression. Converting it to MP3 creates a lossy listening copy; retain the FLAC files if you want to keep the lossless source for future use.

Set the balance between size and quality

MP3 quality and bitrate settings affect the encoded result. Compare a converted track using the equipment you normally listen with instead of choosing settings only by file size.

Convert several tracks in one session

Add multiple FLAC files or a folder to the queue. Apply one MP3 preset across the batch, or adjust individual jobs when recordings have different output requirements.

Check the destination player

Conversion produces local files for you to transfer or open. Confirm that your player accepts the selected MP3 settings, and check the saved files before converting an entire collection.

FLAC to MP3 questions

Is FLAC to MP3 conversion lossless?

No. MP3 is a lossy format. A higher-quality setting can reduce audible changes, but the MP3 does not preserve all the information in the FLAC.

Can I turn the MP3 back into the original FLAC?

You can encode an MP3 as FLAC, but this cannot reconstruct information discarded during MP3 compression. Keep your original FLAC when that matters.

Can I convert a folder of FLAC files?

Yes. Add a folder or several files to the queue and select MP3. Check which items are included and review the output destination before starting.

Do I need to upload my music?

No. Local FLAC conversion runs on your PC. The suite is free for supported conversion and export, and requires 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004+ or Windows 11.
